Top 5 Takeaways from the 2023 Fall Showcase

There was talent. There was courage. There was authenticity. The 2023 Rock 101 Fall Showcase blew me away in so many ways.

Here’s the Top 5 List of Awesomeness:

1 - Adult Learners

Can we take a moment to acknowledge the adult learners? They are busy doing all of the adulting but have found time to pursue their musical passions in one-on-one lessons. I am inspired!

2 - Freebirds stole the show

A tiny group of rockers dressed in a variety of costumes howling along to “Werewolves of London.” That’s about all I can even say about that as I’m unable to process this level of cuteness.

3 - Teenagers are writing their own music?!

Hold the phone. I just watched a group of teenagers perform songs that they wrote themselves? I did not even know that was possible. Shoutout to the Songwriter’s Collective specialty class. Don’t forget about me when you’re all famous, ok?

4 - Family costumes reigned supreme

When the Addams Family walked in, I about died. Cousin Itt, Morticia, and Wednesday Addams, I salute you. You understood the assignment.

5 - There is nothing better than the Rock 101 community.

Conversations at the snack table. Friends and family posing on the Rock 101 red carpet. Instructors beaming with pride as their students perform. Audience members applaud in enthusiasm for all performers, even the ones they don’t know. Yeah, Rock 101 is the place to be.
